Location & Overview
Located about 5 kilometers from Saundatti in Karnataka, the Yellamma Temple sits atop Yellamma Gudda (formerly Siddhachal Parvat). The temple is dedicated to Goddess Renuka, also known as Yellamma or Ellama, who is revered as a fertility goddess.

Historical Significance
Built in 1514 by Bomappa Nayaka of Raybag, the temple site shows archaeological evidence dating back to the mid-8th to mid-11th centuries from the early Rashtrakuta or late Chalukyan period. The area also contains megalithic tombs and potsherds from the 3rd century BCE.

Unique Customs
Pilgrims observe the “Nimmana” custom, which involves circumambulating the Sathyamma Temple with neem leaves in their mouths. Before worship, devotees bathe at the “Yogarbavi Satyabamma Kunda” tank and change into fresh clothes.

Major festivals are celebrated twice annually between October and April, drawing pilgrims from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, and Maharashtra.
