Our Heritage

A meeting point of empiresand cultures

Rattas and Kadambas built here. Yadavas, Hoysalas, Bahmani Sultans, Adil Shahis and Marathas each held its forts in turn. The British met Rani Chennamma's revolt at Kittur in 1824, and Gandhi presided over the Congress at Belagavi in 1924 — the only session he ever chaired.

Its temples borrow from Chalukyan, Rashtrakuta and Dravidian traditions, often in the same building.
