Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama
Overview
Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Belagavi
Established in June 2000, the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama in Belagavi holds significant historical and spiritual value, being situated in the house where Swami Vivekananda stayed during his visit to the city from October 16 to 27, 1892. Initially, he spent the first three days with Sri Sadashiv Bhate and the remaining nine days as a guest of Sri Haripada Mitra, then a sub-divisional forest officer.
This renovated residence of Sri Haripada Mitra now features a dhyana mandira (meditation hall) and showcases exhibits about Swamiji’s impactful visit. In January 2004, a Universal Temple dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna was consecrated adjacent to the house, further enriching the spiritual ambiance of the Ashrama.
The Ashrama includes a bookshop stocked with literature on Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, and Vedanta, making it a hub for spiritual seekers. Emphasizing inclusivity, the Ashrama welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, regardless of caste, religion, or race, fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth.
